A student studying to enter a LPN career will learn how to take vital signs like pulse and blood pressure. They will be the first line of communication so they learn how to collect pertinent information from the patient. Patient service instruction will include preparing and administering injections, collecting lab samples and basic routine lab tests, feeding and caring for infants, and instruction on how to teach good hygiene and good health and nutrition habits.
With this acquired knowledge the student LPN will then be instructed on how to supervise subordinates. They will be able to, after completion of any qualified course, to begin watching out for the well-being of patients by ensuring that the nurses’ aides, assistants, and even candy striper volunteers are doing just what they should without overstepping their own authority.
The courses include in school training and onsite training at a local doctor's office or hospital. The student will have to acknowledge that the program they decide to attend is approved by the state's Board of Nursing because there is a licensure requirement. Once the student LPN has completed their formal education and required internships they must then sit for a test from the National Council Licensure. This exam is fee-based so the tester should refer to their state's web site for Board of Nursing required fees.
There is financial aid available for the student who chooses to become an LPN. The cost for the LPN classes can start at around $2000.00. If cost is not a factor pay for the schooling as you are going through it to eliminate the additional burden of a student loan pay-back.
